Phoenix Mecano September Employee Spotlight: Account Manager, Sylvia Cutsail

At Phoenix Mecano, we’re proud to say that we’ve created a family environment for employees to grow professionally and personally. For our latest Employee Spotlight, we had the opportunity to sit down with our wonderful Account Manager, Sylvia Cutsail, to learn more about her and what she does!

How long have you been working at Phoenix Mecano and have you always been doing the same job within the organization?

I’ve been at Phoenix Mecano for 14 years – I actually just celebrated my work anniversary this July! I was initially hired as a Sales Representative. My title has changed a bit, but I’m still doing the same job I did when I began.

What aspect about your job do you enjoy most?

I really enjoy interacting with customers and talking about their projects. I love that my job allows me to meet people all over the country.

What’s one thing people might not know about you?

I love rock and roll and I have a big passion for golf!

What is one thing people don’t know about Phoenix Mecano’s products that you think they would find surprising or interesting?

I think people would be surprised just how versatile we can be with just a plain enclosure. When it comes to our RK Rose+Krieger line, I’m always amazed at what we can do with the different profiles – I call them tinker toys, but I’m always surprised at the products that are built out of them.

I’m also amazed by how our engineers can see a better way of doing things – like making a machine do something it wasn’t originally supposed to do. I’ve always been very impressed by their imagination.

What’s the coolest application of a Phoenix Mecano product that you’ve seen?

It wasn’t my customer, but it was an RK bright yellow staircase/stage floor.

What would be your dream job?

I have a pretty unique voice that I always thought would be good for radio!

What is your background? Ex: where are you originally from, where did you go to school, etc.

I am a Frederick native and I went to Governor Thomas Johnson High School. After graduating, I was at Frederick Community College for about a year and a half studying Business Management. I left when I married my first husband and my college endeavors kind of came to a halt.

The first job I had was actually working for a real estate appraiser. It was a really cool job because I got to look at tax records and dive into the Frederick county deeds. It was like looking through a history book! After that, I went right into sales and worked for a major distributor. I started out as a file clerk (before computers) and made my way up to sales. I was a manager for a while but realized I enjoyed working with customers rather than managing people.

What is your favorite pastime?

I really enjoy playing golf, gardening and hosting parties/entertaining people.

Have you travelled a lot? Where to? What’s the #1 place you would like to visit?

One of my life goals is to play golf in all 50 states, and so far, I have a lot of states under my belt. I’ve also been to Italy and Germany (I went to Germany on a work trip for Phoenix Mecano and it was a wonderful experience). I’ve also been all over the Caribbean. The one place I haven’t gotten to yet, but would love to see, is Greece.

Do you have any bucket list items? Ex: skydiving, learning to play an instrument, etc.

I tend to do things, and then afterwards, add it to my bucket list so I can check it off! I recently went jet skiing, which I’ve never done before. My list is ongoing.

Phoenix Mecano’s Inside Sales Manager, LeeAnne Pacheco, had some nice things to say about Sylvia. “Sylvia brings years of sales, customer service and distribution experience to her position here at Phoenix Mecano. Customer communication comes easy to her which aids in her ability to develop valuable customer relationships. She also makes a point to become knowledgeable on our products, which ensures our customers get the most accurate information. Her work ethic, knack for knowing when to negotiate, and high productivity levels all contribute to her success here in Sales. Sylvia is a very sweet, good hearted person. She treats her co-workers like family and you can tell Phoenix Mecano really means something to her. She would do anything for anyone and I’m grateful that she is part of our team.”

And that’s all for this month’s Employee Spotlight! We hope you enjoyed learning more about Sylvia and we can’t wait to bring you more ‘Spotlights’ in the weeks and months ahead. Stay tuned to our blog to see what’s next!
