The Situation

Ex Enclosure Certifications and Testing 

Chromalox, a manufacturer of advanced thermal technologies, was searching for a junction box that was rugged enough to withstand hazardous location and extreme environments, and pass stringent ATEX testing. The junction box would be used to house heat trace terminal wiring installed in process critical industrial applications. Typical applications include temperature management of piping systems, valves and tanks.

The Challenge

A standard Rose GRP enclosure made of GRP 190 doesn’t have the right conductivity to meet the above requirements, so a replacement material must be specified.

The Solution

Phoenix Mecano design engineers provided Chromalox with a certified Ex 26 fiberglass enclosure with machining, DIN Rail and Terminal Blocks.

Here’s a features break down:

  • Material — Glass-fiber, reinforced duroplastic polyester with added graphite
  • Model: Glass fiber reinforced closure system of polyester resin for application in all Ex areas. Empty enclosure for individual fittings and
  • Ex e / Ex ia junction boxes. Note: Explosion protected.
