In a recent interview, Peyton Carter, one of our dedicated interns working in the engineering department shared some key insights into her professional growth. She shared how transformative it is to have hands-on experience working in the field.
Peyton explained how the internship experience bridges a gap between classroom learning and real-life job experiences. By immersing herself in the role of a design engineer, she’s been able to develop a deeper understanding of the practical skills and nuances required in the field. This is giving her a much more complete perspective than what she could ever learn from a textbook.
She openly talked about the challenges she faced during the initial phase of her internship, and she acknowledged there’s a curve associated with learning such diverse systems and software tools in a manufacturing environment. However, despite initially feeling a bit overwhelmed, her resilience and adaptability have been able to shine through. Now, she’s gaining confidence and finding fulfillment.
Peyton’s dedication to learning and growth was also brought to light through her understanding of the intricacies of the role and expectations within this industry. She’s been fully willing to welcome the chance to overcome difficulties by seeing them both as being growth opportunities, as well as being a part of her commitment to excellence and professional development.
Expressing gratitude for the support she’s received from her colleagues at Phoenix Mecano, Peyton told us she wanted to especially mention her mentor Rebekah who’s been giving her valuable lessons and guidance. She’s also grateful for the opportunity to network with industry professionals and participate in company trips and tours, including a visit to a cosmetics manufacturing facility which significantly contributed to her understanding of various roles within the manufacturing workplace.
During the interview it is clear that Peyton is especially enthusiastic about applying CAD skills to real-world projects, likening it to a creative outlet with defined constraints. Peyton also emphasized the value of gaining exposure to different job roles and processes within the industry, providing a comprehensive understanding of potential careers.
Chatting with Peyton has shown her to be proactive, and adaptable with a growth-oriented approach to this internship and to the future. She’s an admirable intern who other aspiring engineers, as well as others looking to work at Phoenix Mecano, can look up to.
